Target Groups

Single Parents & Teens Foundation of Dallas, Inc., targeting both the low and moderate income families. Single parents who find themselves in the position where they either qualify for state support programs, which also makes it impossible to achieve ultimate success because if their income exceeds by $1.00 it makes it impossible to continue receiving assistance (i.e. child care assistance, food stamps, housing, etc.) in addition moderate income families - Single parents who find themselves in a position where they do not qualify for state support programs because they do not meet income guidelines, forcing them to pay in full for all their expenses (i.e. child care, food, rent, etc.) Both groups are at socio-economical disadvantage.

The suburban single parents with household annual income is up to $60,000. This group finds itself in the position where they do not qualify for state support programs because their incomes may just barely exceed the qualification criteria for social services. The group also does not have the additional income required to put proper support programs in place for their children. Survey data shows that this is applicable to at least 30% of single parents.

Profile of the Target Groups

The demographics Single Parents & Teens Foundation of Dallas, Inc., will serve are as follows:

• Single parents
• Income Level up to $60,000
• At least one child between the ages of 0 - 21 years
• Meet certain guidelines
• Services available for both
low and moderate income families.

Other services that will be delivered include pregnancy, counseling and child care, sporting programs, home economics, basic computing and other academic pursuits including preparation classes for the SAT examinations. The services will utilize the services of recognized motivational speakers who wish to donate their time and energy or can provide their services for a minimal fee to worthwhile causes in most cases. In addition, teens and/or children will be exposed to diverse skills-building programs, including skills required in the construction industry and the computer field. All these activities will be presented in a fun-learning environment as opposed to formal school learning.

Single parents are faced with many challenges in today’s society such as having to provide for their children without help from the other parent. This situation forces some of our single parents to work extra jobs, leaving the older children at home to supervise the younger children. Some are forced to live on the welfare system because it seems somewhat impossible to meet all the basic expenses and pay for childcare for more than 2 children. Even though there are childcare assistance programs available, the waiting list is sometimes exhaustive and it is consequently very difficult to receive childcare assistance due to the lack of government funds available for the different programs.

This program is for every single parent who is struggling and cannot find assistance or is on an extensive waiting list and is either in the low-income or moderate income range. This parents cannot advance to the next level because income requirements makes it impossible to do so, but both groups are willing to become better people, better parents and an asset to the community and feeling a sense of belonging towards the improvement of our society.

Low Income Family
Income guidelines state that families in this level can only make minimal to qualify for most programs which makes it impossible to have certain activities for the children and it also makes it impossible to achieve ultimate success because if these families make too much they will either not qualify for services or the services received will be drastically reduced. Also, it makes it harder if they have to attend certain training programs to continue qualifying for other benefits due to the restrictions, criteria, and availability of such training programs. Therefore, to seek and pay for other type of training, hinders their finances and becomes impossible for them to support their family.

Moderate Income Family
Income guidelines make it impossible for some parents to advance to another level because the requirements apply mostly for low-income families and if they have a few extra cents on their checks then it becomes impossible to receive the lessen assistance programs available to them.

Teens and Children
Keeping teens and children safe, healthy, focus, out of trouble, educated and well rounded is our key factor; so all children and teens are welcome to participate in the program depending upon availability of funds.
